4 ways Yoga is amazing for your skin!

Posted on

Hello friends! As you know at Elate we love {self-love}, so all this month we will be bringing you ways to add more love to your life-and all the benefits of adding new rituals to your self-care routine. I personally use a daily mediation and weekly yoga practice as part of my self-care ritual. I use these tools as a way to fire up my body and spirit, and also as part of my skin care ritual.

"Yoga for skin care!?" you ask. Yes, yoga and meditation are also great for your skin...and here is why.

  1. Yoga increases blood circulation, which provides you with smooth glowing skin. Especially poses that help increase the circulation to the head and face area. Some examples are cobra pose, shoulder stand, triangle pose, and child pose. These postures also increase oxygenation to the system; as they are  are 'chest openers'. All inverted postures and forward bends, such as downward dog, increase blood supply to the head as well, and are particularly good for our facial skin.

  2. Yoga is great for detoxing your system. The increase in circulation, as well as twisting poses can kick start toxins moving in through the body, and the activity helps to sweat them out.

  3. Breakouts and blemishes can often be attributed to a slow moving digestive system. (or a little over-endulging - wink wink) To improve the digestive process, try doing Wind-Relieving Posture, Kneeling Pose (Vajrasana), Bow Pose (Dhanurasana), or any posture that incorporates a twist to massage those lovely internal organs.

  4. Meditate twice a day, every day. Even 5 minutes at a time is enough to smooth those furrowed brows and soften facial features. The added benefit of feeling calm and present will give your skin a glow.

Other tips to get your glow on:

  • Drink lots of water: Lukewarm water with lemon and turmeric helps detoxify your system while keeping your skin clean and healthy.

  • Eat fresh: Make sure you include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin C in your diet. Raw nuts, and seeds with plenty of omegas and healthy fats are essential for smooth plump skin. Introduce herbs and spices good for skin care, red clover and burdock root is excellent as a tea for clear skin.

  • Rest well: When your body is deeply rested, it automatically shows on the face. A minimum of eight hours of good sleep is ideal.

  • Use natural skin care and makeup: Obviously ;)
  • Smile: This is the easiest make-up you can apply on your face. The more you smile, the more your true beauty comes out.. Your yoga practice can help you grow with self-love and care, and you will glow inside and out.

Most at of all, take time for you!
